Slow the Flow, Leaky Dams

The creation of leaky dams was one of the first conservation activities undertaken at Mayes Park.
During October 2022 Wilder Horsham District volunteers constructed a number of leaky dams. Leaky dams help slow the flow of water off the land, allowing it to permeate into the ground and reducing run-off into local watercourses, which has the potential to cause flooding during storm events. Until we see Beavers at Mayes Park we’ll continue to build these.
