Hedgelaying

November 2023 Wilder Horsham District volunteers got to help and learn the techniques of hedgelaying.

Hedgelaying was traditionally carried out to maintain stock proof hedges, but is now recognised for its benefit to wildlife, providing food, shelter and corridors for their movement. The Hazel we used was coppiced from Mayes. Coppicing lets light to the woodland floor promoting the growth of dormant wildflowers.
